Changes need to be made, but what? and how much?

What am I to do the next four months, until the new season starts? So many things that need to change and so many things that don't. I am anxiously awaiting to hear something from the DC United front office. Anyone being waived, fired or new coming in. I thought the process would start the morning after we lost to Columbus or even the morning after we lost to CD Marathon. But nothing has happened yet. What gives? So, since I haven't heard anything, I guess I will write about what i would like to hear. Here goes.

Tommy Soehn: I like the guy. Have met him twice, couldn't be nicer. He did really well in 2007. The players responded to him, he seemed to really help them out. His lineups were consistent and he coached them into a Supporters Shield. Then again, he coached healthy, happy and talented players. Then came this season, 2008. I was on Tommy's side most of the season. Even in the beginning of the season, when things were going horribly wrong, when the chemistry wasn't there. This team didn't play with their heart, they didn't fight to wear that jersey. Who is the one that is suppose to make them understand this and do it? Soehn. I look back and think I knew in the back of my head what the problem was. I think he lost this team after the first few games this season. The winning streak in June was the players finally coming together. I don't think Soehn had anything to do with it. Once the streak was over, the players were injured and everything went to shit, Soehn gave up. He couldn't motivate them, even with a decent lineup. When the team went to San Jose, I wanted to punch someone. We had a decent lineup playing in that game, but no heart, no fight, nothing that made this team worthy of calling them DC United. Who's fault is that, Soehns. He is the one responsible for making a team understand what it is playing for and I don't feel he ever did that. At the end of the season, he was out coached. He put players in that couldn't even stand on their own feet (rod). Basically, he needs to go. And if he doesn't go now, then I say give him a few games next season, and then re-evaluate. If he can't make a healthy DC United win some games and play with some heart, then he can't coach this team.

Players: First and foremost, Santino Quaranta. Unfortunately, I do not remember Tino when he was with the team a couple years ago. From what I got, he barely saw the field anyway. From what I've seen this year, he's been playing for this team forever. The heart and the fight are there, all the time, every game. He did nothing but get better this year. His vision of the field, his leadership and thankfully, his crosses! This team would be stupid not to sign Tino to a decent contract. He is only 24 years old with many more years to put under his belt. I expect to see him in black next season. My only suggestion to him, when things are going bad during a game, keep your head up man!

As for the rest, I guess I will sum it up with the expansion draft. Which will be posted after lunch!
