What's this thing you call work?

Yeah, I'm at work and having a very hard time working! The Expansion Draft Protected lists came out yesterday, how am I suppose to work today?

Here is the list of players United decided to protect:

Quaranta, Emilio, Namoff, Simms, Guerrero, Boyzzz, Janicki, Moreno, Burch, McTavish, and Fred.

I was definitely a little surprised by a couple of these. The first is Boyzzz. Boyzzz did an okay job in the few games that he played, but he that fact is, he cannot finish what he starts. I would have thought they would have protected Doe over Boyzzz. I believe in the couple MLS and Champions League games he played, he only had one goal and one assist. Doe had goals in the last MLS games and a couple of the Champions League. He really seemed to find his form for scoring. Although, it did take all season for that to happen. Doe is also a lot younger then Boyzzz, who is 27 years old. The one thing I do have to give him though, are his foot skillz! The boy could dribble through 2, 3 even 4 players. He was definitely impressive in that department, he just couldn't finish it off. So, I guess they're are good points either way, but I probably would have gone for Doe.

I honestly thought they would leave either Burch or McTavish off this list. Now that they protected both, I have two thoughts of whats going to happen with either one. First, these two are still developing their form and growing as players, they could both be in the long term future plans of DCU. Neither had a spectacular season, but were put in situations they probably weren't ready to handle. Holding on to them, could really help this team in future seasons, as long as they do improve and prove that this year was simply just "a bad year." The second thing that could be happening, is a trade in the works. I really don't see this happening, simply for the fact that they did have a bad year, but you never know.

As for the players left unprotected, they all make sense, except for Doe and Vide. Gallardo, dp money, injury prone. Olsen, high salary, injury prone. Crayton, Seattle has a keeper, plus high salary. Martinez, didn't impress half of the season, high salary. Peralta, injury prone, high salary. The only two I see Seattle choosing would be Doe or Vide.

But honestly, with some of the players left open on the other teams, I don't see anyone getting picked from United. Which would be sweet!

That's my take on this whole thing. I leave you with a pic of Fred playing his first game with Wellington over the weekend. The team won 2-0.
